Our Look - Dreamtime Sail Merchandise

Our Look will be branded with recycled
Leather Labels

have a deep passion for textiles. The ability to transform delicate yarns into sturdy surfaces, turn a plain white canvas into a burst of vibrant colors, manipulate fabrics into three-dimensional shapes, and create intricate patterns through cutting, stitching, fraying, and appliqué is truly captivating and empowering. Thus, it gives me great pleasure to give you a quick glimpse at something new  “Our Look” handmade clothing from onboard Our Dreamtime whilst we sail around in this beautiful world.

The clothing will be made with organic sustainable natural fabrics

Textiles originated from basic human needs – clothing and shelter. The attention to aesthetics seems to have developed shortly after: “It is believed that variety in design and the desire for enhancement of the created object followed closely upon invention of fabric”, and thus function was married with beauty (Held, S. 1978).

We will recycle clothing where possible and give them a new life

For this collection I have challenged myself to make wearable art that is reminiscent of our lifestyle on the sea. I will test the boundaries of what is achievable on our boat as we continue to sail to unbelievable destinations that inspire me to create something beautiful yet wearable.

The challenge will be how far can I go with the
boundaries set by living on a boat

When I studied fashion I found textiles stood out as the most intriguing aspect of design. In all honesty, it was the most rewarding part of design. A dream of mine was to create naturally dyed clothing from responsibly sourced fabrics and create clothing using my patterns. The dream started with a range of children’s wear, until “the rescission we had to have” became the reality. Transitioning to a stable career in the Defense Force as a tailor provided security but lacked the creative outlet I craved.

After a rejuvenating sailing trip to Sulawesi, witnessing the local artisans' use of natural dyes from coconut husks, avocado seeds, and indigo plants inspired me to embark on a new creative journey. I watched as local traditional artists were using the natural dyes to make garments that are chic and creative. Their process took me back to my student days where we experimented with natural dyes and fabrics.

Using all of my skills I will endeavour to make
Wearable Art unique individually made with my surroundings in mind

I remember my excitement in seeing such simple techniques display such amazing results. This is not to say that the process is easy I also remember lots and lots of “Oh No!” moments. Trial, error and effort goes into using natural products they are never as reliable as the chemically produced products available. So why natural you ask? There is something that is just right about using materials from Mother Earth. She gave use the natural elements water and sun as too the ingredients to make every colour of the rainbow.

So what is my aim. My goal is to craft a range of one-of-a-kind clothing items made from natural fibres, recycled items, dyed with natural colorants, and washed in pure water and cured under the sun. Embellished with embroidery using natural cottons, printed, beaded and painted. These exclusive pieces, ranging from beachwear to casual dinner attire, will be available for both men and women. They will reflect my love of the sea and the world we live in. They will quite simply be an expression of me.

The collection will be released gradually as unique, individual items through our Social Media and YouTube Channel, with purchases available on "Our Store" via Payhip. Each piece will be a testament to my craftsmanship, ensuring that whoever wears them owns a truly distinct garment for various occasions. These pieces will be in fact our merchandise no run-of-the-mill bulk buy TShirts. Each piece will be a reflection of Dreamtime Sail. We are different we are quirky and unique and so will be Our Merchandise.

So watch out for the first release in 2025.
